Producer Claire Mackenzie Chosen as Ambassador for Love British Food

We’re very proud of our fabulous Producer Claire Mackenzie who has been chosen to be an Ambassador for Love British Food. Nestled amongst some highly influential names from the food industry, she’s excited to have the opportunity to support local farmers and growers.

Claire’s been involved in community environmental projects for over 20 years having gained an interest in environmental issues whilst studying politics at university. She’s spent several years both volunteering and steering local community gardens and sustainability projects in London and more recently in Cambridgeshire and is a regular volunteer at Sweetpea Market Garden, which is owned and run by one of our film’s main characters, Adrienne Gordon.

Claire says, “For me it’s so important to offer my help so that I can really get involved at a local level and to learn from others. Making the film, we have spoken to many people within the regen farming community that are incredibly generous with their time providing mentorship to others that are keen to make this agroecological transition. Once you rediscover that connection with the soil and with nature, which would have been the lifeblood of our ancestors, the desire to help make change and to provide positive action, for me, has been incredibly strong. It’s wonderful to see Adrienne’s business being supported locally and to see her working with others to help to regenerate communities.

“On a wider scale, it’s really important that all people across the country have access to locally grown, healthy and nutritious food, whether that’s at home, in a hospital, schools, anywhere that people eat. To do this, we need to ensure that we’re supporting the many hardworking farmers and growers that are trying to make this a reality. We know from experience, following Adrienne, that not only is the work challenging, often working seven days a week with extremely long hours whilst trying to work in harmony with nature and the elements, there is also very little financial gain particularly in the first year or more. Love British Food’s ethos is fully aligned with Six Inches of Soil and I’m excited to be part of an incredible team of Ambassador’s who are working hard to publicise this project to help it to continue to expand.”

Love British Food prides itself on being grassroots driven, rooted in communities around the country. Its activities started in 2002 with twelve community groups around the country led by parish leaders. The organisation is dedicated to making high quality, nutritious British grown and produced food available to all sectors of our society, in particular the poorest and most vulnerable.
